Shabby Chic Chore Chart Tutorial

blog chore91)  Wood Plank The first chore chart we ever had, I bought at a local boutique, called The Quilted Bear, about 13 years ago (I searched and searched for a picture but could not find it). It was a plank of wood with about 5 screw hooks that said My Chores.  It came with a stack of laminated cards with different chores to do and on the flip side was a big check mark to show you were finished.  This could be easily made with a plank of wood and some screw hooks, then print off these chore cards and laminate.Shabby Chic Chore Chart Tutorial, plus 6 other options that will help motivate your family! www.thekusilife.com

2) Jar of chores Each stick  in the jar had a chore on it and when the kids got home from school they would choose a stick or two after they did homework and before they could play.  The color on one end was so you could flip it when it was done.  They had to choose a stick with the color showing.

3) Simple List– At one point I just made a list, just before the kids got home from school, of things that I noticed needed to be done.  The listed items were divided up between the 3 kids at the time.  As each child liked chores differently, they could choose which ones they wanted. We tried 1-whoever got their homework done first got to choose first 2- each child chose what chores they wanted, if there was a fight for the same chore, they flipped a coin or 3-I assigned them out.

4)Do it/Done-As my children got older and more were added to our family I needed more help around the house.  I was tired of feeling like I had to hover over each child to get things done.  I just wanted them to know what they needed to do and do it.  That’s when I made these and they were FANTASTIC! The kids loved looking at the pictures and moving their magnets over when they finished their chores.

5)Chore Wheel- This is just a simple wheel it could be made super cute but when I made this I just didn’t have the time.  This picture was taken at the end of its life as you can see.  This wheel ended up being combined with the next idea.

6) Check off lists-  A few years ago I had the opportunity to go to a girl’s camp our church put on (Heber Valley Camp),  I have to say the LDS church is VERY organized.  We stayed in cabins that at the end of our stay were expected to be cleaned.  Each area of the cabin had a specific list of what was expected to be done and what was to be used to do it, which made it so easy.  I loved it so much that I decided to implement it in my home.  I made these very specific lists for each of the areas on our chore wheel.  My kids loved using the dry erase marker to check off their items done.
