Easter is coming so quick this year! Are you all ready?
It’s easy to get caught up in the fun of Easter with the Easter Bunny, baskets, Easter egg hunts and food but I want my children to know WHY we celebrate Easter and gain their own testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ and his atonement, and know that HE LIVES!
At our house it is tradition to do an Easter Family Home evening the Monday before Easter that focuses on the Savior’s crucifixion and resurrection. The one we have been doing for years is this story of Easter in eggs.
Easter Story Eggs
I have children from the age of 4-17 yrs old and over the years it has been perfect for our family. I know that it won’t be long that we move on to the FHE shared on page 2 of this post which is better for an older group.
We made this at a Relief Society activity and now that I think of it, this might have been meant to be an advent but we always use it for FHE.
Each egg has a scripture to tell part of the Easter story as well as an item that the children can look at, hold, or smell creating sensory engagement which helps them retain the story better. I have created a free printable for you to make your own Easter Story Eggs here. ** when you click on this link you will be asked if you would like to join drop box but you do not have to, to get the printable, just click through to see the pdf.**
All you have to do is grab a bag of 12 eggs and put numbers 1-12 on them with Stickers, a Sharpie or even cut numbers with a Cricut Create Machine which is what I did (I just have this basic machine but I love it). Then print off the scriptures in the document above and gather the items for each scripture putting them in the corresponding egg.
When we do this FHE I let the children choose a couple of eggs then we start with 1 and go to 12, reading each scripture and pass around each item. Sometimes there is a discussion beyond the scriptures and sometimes we just get through each egg/scripture, a beautiful spirit is always there.
After going through the eggs we watch an Easter video from lds.org . This year I will start with the #Hallelujah video from Mormon.org
Then we will watch He is Risen!
See the next page for an FHE for an older group. I will be using this in my Sunday School lesson (12-13 year olds) Easter Sunday. I am so excited!!
Pages: 1 2
I’m super excited for this lesson! I can’t wait to read these scriptures and discuss them with our class! I’m so lucky to have you as a teaching companionion!
Thanks Analee, I am excited to. I felt the spirit so strong as I wrote this post I hope the youth will feel it too.
This is so cute! I think it’s too much for my little ones, but maybe next year!! So creative!
Thank you Chelsea!! You would be amazed at what little ones can pick up on. I’ve been doing this Easter Story Egg FHE for at least 5 years now, so mine have been quite young when we’ve done it. They love the eggs and seeing what’s inside, then we simplify the scripture and explain in toddler words what each thing represents. Then showing the movie after, really seals the deal. BUT, you are the mama and you know your children so who am I to say:) Have a great Easter!
Hi, so excited to print the envelopes and use them for some of our older friends and family members.
Went to the download and can’t find the file labeled “gold” that Heidi talked about in her video and her comments. Any ideas??? Want to print it with the gold. Thanks
Susan- If you click on the highlighted word “instructions” in them she says, “note: I printed them with a laser printer and used my Minc foil application machine to add DIY toner reactive foil…cause that’s my jam. But you can also choose to download the file that is labeled Dzgolddz, which already has the gold vibe printed on the PDF).” I don’t have a Minc foil application machine, so I haven’t done it that way but I did print one labeled “gold”(the highlighted #1gold and so on) and it isn’t shiny but uses yellow/gold colors of ink. Let me know if you need any more help:)
I may not be very technically, but when I download envelope #1, all that comes up is the template with black print on the page. Is there somewhere I am not looking for the print one labeled “gold”???
Thanks for your help,
Oops…. just found it all…thanks s much for this great idea.
Oh good, Susan!! ENJOY
THANK YOU, THANK YOU so very much. We had such a nice time with this. Sending it to some special friends. What a wonderful Easter surprise in their mail.
Have a wonderful week.
