Days after Donald Trump won the election to be President I was excited to hear about this initiative that the LDS Church is putting out. With all the despair and hate I saw online I felt so dark and down. I feel that this movement has been inspired and it gave me hope for the future. We need to just love each other and make this country what we want it to be by our own actions and this initiative does just that.
It starts out with a Worldwide Day of Service on December 1, “Serve anyone you want, any way you want”.
This Day of Service kicks off a month long Light the World Christmas Initiative. Each day of the month of December the church encourages us to take action and do as Christ did, by loving and serving others.
“Christ taught ‘Ye are the light of the world,” and we hope that through small and simple acts of service, we can spread the light of Christ—helping others to feel the love of the Savior through genuine kindness.” —Bruce Muir, Director of Emergency Response for the LDS Church
Be on the look out for a Calendar that will become available on Mormon.org November 25th as well as a video that encourages different Christlike acts for each day till Christmas. A few examples: Jesus helped others to see and so can you-find an eyeglasses collection box and donate an old pair OR Point out a virtue in someone they don’t see in themselves. Jesus taught others and so can you– Share your favorite teaching or story of Jesus on social media OR Pass down something you learned from your parents or grandparents OR Watch an online tutorial to learn a new skill that can benefit others.
Join my family and I in finding 25ways in 25days to show love and kindness to family, friends, neighbors and even strangers. I know if you do, you will feel the true joy of the Christmas season. What better way to celebrate Christ than to be like Him.
Thanks Meg for the reminder- this is such a great idea!!!
You are welcome Terrie!! So much good can come from this if we all try:)
