Caramel Apple Pretzel Bites

First thing that comes to mind when I think about the Fall is Pumpkins, second thing – well, Caramel Apples. We LOVE them. We love to eat them, but I honestly don’t love to buy them! Its an expensive treat that we indulge in every so often. The few times we have attempted them, I felt like I have not gotten the caramel at just the right consistency – its kinda tricky business! I was thinking of attempting them again this year, and as I was waking up one morning this idea came to me out of no where! Caramel apples for breakfast, well why not!  I thought I would give them a try and they were a big hit! My daughters friend came over after I had made a batch and kept sneaking them from the fridge. I overheard her say “Your mom should make a cook book and put these in there! They would be the recipe of the year!” You gotta love that 🙂

They are easy peasy and very quick to make, especially if you have a few other pairs of helping hands!

Caramel Apple Pretzel Bites

Preheat your oven to 350*. Unwrap your Rolos candies.

Cut your apples. I used my apple cutter and then trimmed the tip of the triangle off .

Place your apples in about one cup of water and 1 TBS of lemon juice to avoid browning.

I used small pretzels. Place them on a cookie sheet that is lined with parchment paper.

Place the Rolos Candies on top of your pretzels. Put it in the oven for 3 minutes.

Meanwhile remove the apples from the water and dry them off. Place the toothpicks in each apple chunk.

Make sure you don’t leave the pretzels in the oven over the 3 minutes, you just want to soften them 😉 Place the toothpicked apples in the center of the melted chocolate and caramel. You can leave them out to harden for about 30 minutes, or place them in the refrigerator for 10 minutes, allow to sit for 5 minutes before serving or the caramel will be a bit hard.

They are the perfect treat for fall, or any time really 😉 Serve them at a party, or have them as a fun family movie night treat!

See the Happy!

Just curious, how long do they keep without the apples becoming brown? We are going camping and I would love to bring these but not sure they would keep!

When I use the lemon juice its about 2-3 hours that they keep before going brown. I have saved some over night after a party, they were still good the next day, but were browning. I hope you have fun on your camping trip!

These look totally awesome! I couldn’t think of a better combo. I want these right now, but I’ll be sure to save for later so I can make them for the holidays. Love them! Pinning for later.

Rolos are definitely a favorite at our house too! Good luck with the gluten-free option. I would love to hear if you find something 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

Thinking of making these for a party on Saturday. I want to prepare them ahead of time. If I place them in the lemon juice , how long would I have before they turn brown? What if I froze them, do you think that would preserve them till the end of the week?

I apologize I did not see this message before Brenda. For me the lemon juice works against browning for 2-3 hours. I have never personally froze them so I am not sure about that. Another reader mentioned using Opal apples, she said they don’t brown. We usually make them as people are coming in, everyone helps open the Rolos as we chat and it is a great way to get some help. I hope your party was a success!!
