I went to Ricks College in Rexburg Idaho back in the day. The school is now BYU Idaho, (wow that probably dates me pretty bad). As much as I hate the cold, I loved my time in Rexburg. I studied Professional Preschool Education and spent a lot of time at the lab and would walk home late at night. I LOVED it when I would come out and there was a fresh layer of snow on the ground and snow still falling. I had a dark coat and would catch the snowflakes on my sleeve to see if they were “real”. By “real” I mean a beautiful snowflake shape, not just a puff ball. The snowflakes were usually very large so it was easy to see if they were real. I distinctly remember a night like that. No one else was around and the snow was falling. It felt like everything was in silent slow motion. The snowflakes were “real” and I felt such joy and peace.
This may sound a little cheesy but fast forward 10 or so years, I was driving down the road one day, feeling really down, and unimportant and snowflakes began to fall. I was at a stop light and could see the snowflakes falling on my windshield. They were “real”! Intricate, beautiful, perfect, delicate, tiny things. At that moment I felt the spirit tell me that Heavenly Father loves me. Often when I see the beauty of the earth, beautiful things created by a loving father in heaven it brings a spirit of peace and love. To me, those beautiful creations are hugs from my Heavenly Father.
I love snowflakes and enjoy using them to decorate in the winter. I found this snowflake at the dollar store and had to buy it, not knowing at the time what I was going to do with it. It sat on my shelf for a month or so. Then I saw this 12×12 wood plank you can get at Hobby Lobby for about $6 if you use a coupon and the idea was born. Such a simple thing, but I am in love with it. I decided to just hot glue it in case I want to change it in the future. It brings me such joy to create my own unique decor for my home. Especially things that remind me that I am loved.
See the happy!
This is such a cute idea! And I love your little story about snowflakes! Thanks for the reminder about the earth’s beauty!
Thank you for taking the time to check it out Chelsea:)
I love little reminders that help us feel love in a big way. I love snowflakes too. I can remember the last time I saw a real snowflake. I was probably about seven. And I love keeping snowflakes around all winter to keep thesat magical feeling that starts with Christmas around a little longer.
Thanks for sharing Wendy!
Cute craft! Perfect for winter decorating!
Thanks Shari!
Sometimes God uses the simplest little things to tell us He’s there. Love this.
