My last trip to Deseret Industries was such a success that I have to share another budget friendly Christmas decor piece that I made using some of the items I purchased. I am so thrilled with how this one turned out, I just may have to make more. Because I had the paint and ribbon on hand, I only paid $4.50 to make this.
At DI I found this frame($3) and these ornaments ($1.50) which I knew would be perfect for a wreath I saw on etsy recently. Other than the frame and ornaments, you will need:
Paint (acrylic or spray paint)
Glossy finish spray paint (optional)
Ribbon-about 3 yards of 2 1/2″ wide for bow. Then a couple yards 1/4 ” wide for hanging ornaments (you could also use hemp, yarn, string etc)
Glue gun and gluesticks
First paint the frame. Normally I would spray paint it but since I wanted turquoise, and spray paint colors are very limited, I went with acrylics. Plus I really wanted to do with what I had, rather than buy more supplies. I was excited to find a color that matched the ornaments I found.
After painting the frame I sprayed it with a glossy finishing coat to give it a little shine.
While that’s drying you can work on your bow. I made up my own way of doing it but it was very similar to this one here. Mine isn’t as full, this burlap ribbon I used is pretty thick and wouldn’t let me spread it out as much.
Then take the 1/4 inch ribbon and string it through the ornaments. I hot glued the tail of the ribbon to the back.
Then hot glue the ribbons in place wherever or however you choose. I chose to do 3 ornaments but you can do as many as you want. I’ve heard that using odd numbers usually looks best.
I tied my bow on with a smaller red ribbon I had. You could also hot glue or wire it on as well. Now you are done and you can find a lovely place to put it in your home or even on your front door.
Enjoy this low cost, easy decor piece. These would be wonderful, budget friendly gifts as well!
